The following is a general description of our programs and learning opportunities:
Language Communication Development
Interpersonal communication is a central feature of all ACAL learning activities. Our students are exposed to and involved in the communication of information for a wide variety of purposes. Specific receptive and expressive language skills development in oral and written forms are addressed according to individual needs and priorities.
Computer Skills
Students are supported to engage in day-to-day use of the computer as a management tool for completing tasks, for acquiring information and for leisure. Basic skills in the use of the mouse, keyboard, software and support devices are practised at the level of participation appropriate to student needs and interests.
Arts, Crafts and Design
Students take part in activities planned for personal expression, recreation and pleasure. Practical applications such as decorations for seasonal celebrations, displays of crafts, model assembly and the use of a wide range of materials are planned and explored.
Mathematics and Money Management
Students are involved in activities to develop knowledge and improve skills in the application of day-to-day mathematics and money management. Learning activities include skill building exercises, budget organization, planning purchases, shopping in stores and the development of personal skills related to the handling and management of money.
Culinary Skills
Students are involved in activities which support the development of personal skills in the use of cutlery, kitchen equipment and small and large appliances. Essential and basic information is reviewed during practical cooking and baking activities. Safe practices are emphasized.
Healthy Living
We encourage participation in a variety of physical activities to improve personal fitness and to promote an active lifestyle. Activities include dance, team games as well as group and individual exercise routines in the gym.
