A Special Visit from MP Iqra Khalid!

On Thursday, August 27th, we had the pleasure of welcoming our MP, Iqra Khalid to our centre for a very special visit!

As the Member of Parliament for Mississauga–Erin Mills, MP Khalid took time out of her busy schedule to visit Applewood, learn more about the work we do, and most importantly, connect with the people who make our community so special — our participants.

What made this visit particularly meaningful was the time MP Khalid took to meet each participant one-on-one. Rather than simply stopping by for a quick hello, she made an effort to meet with each participant to hear from them directly. It was a wonderful opportunity for our participants to feel seen, heard, and valued.

Having a Member of Parliament visit our centre is a meaningful reminder of the importance of ensuring that people with developmental disabilities are recognized as active and valued members of our community. Visits like this help build connections between our participants and the wider community while providing an opportunity to showcase the incredible people, abilities, and contributions within Applewood.

We are so grateful to MP Khalid for taking the time to visit us and, most importantly, for taking the time to connect with each and every one of our participants. Her visit brought plenty of smiles, conversations, and excitement to our centre!

Thank you, MP Khalid, for spending part of your day with us! We were so happy to have you. ❤️
